Gas Ops building will set new standard, an article from the Colorado Springs Business Journal, reports that the 40,000-square-foot former Colorado Springs Gas Operations building just west of America the Beautiful Park will undergo a $3 million renovation by the end of the year.  According to Steve Tuck, a senior planner with the city, the USOC property will need to be rezoned from public facility to planned unit development or planned business center zoning, depending on whether the remodel will include a restaurant, gift shop or other commercial or residential components.  The renovation was designed by studioTEN architects Mark Harris and David Porwall.  They see the three USOC facilities as the basis for future “urban jewels” in the city’s downtown core area.  Porwall said, “This is an enabling project for what needs to happen at the OTC campus.  We’ve got some great ideas.  Now we just need to work with the developer, the city and the USOC to make it happen.”

Investor Report: Fannie Mae and Short Sales, an article from RealtyTimes.com, reports that there is good news for investors interested in short sales.  Fannie Mae plans to speed up the pace of short sales on properties in its portfolio.  Fannie intends to "streamline" procedures to enable pre-foreclosure sales to speed through what is currently an extended and complicated process.  According to Fannie Mae, it plans to "pre-approve" certain short sales and wants to provide higher commission incentives to realty agents who can connect sellers with qualified buyers.  Despite complications, short sales are on the rise.  Some industry estimates indicate that so far this year, 1 of every 5 home sales in the U.S. has been a pre-foreclosure transaction of one sort or another.  Fannie Mae's new policy should mean more opportunities for investors, first-time home buyers, and brokers alike.
